The Starship rocket made a splashdown in the Indian Ocean.
The Starship prototype developed by American aerospace company SpaceX recently completed its eleventh test flight, which included a successful splashdown in the Indian Ocean approximately one hour after launch. However, the spacecraft subsequently exploded, an event captured and shared during the company`s live broadcast on X (formerly Twitter).
The test mission commenced with Starship`s launch from its facility in Texas. Just a few minutes into the flight, the Super Heavy booster successfully separated from the Starship, executing a controlled and precise landing in the Gulf of Mexico.
After an hour-long trajectory, the Starship prototype reached its designated splashdown point in the Indian Ocean. Despite this initial achievement of its landing objective, the vehicle unfortunately detonated a short time later.
“Splashdown confirmed! Congratulations to the entire SpaceX team on an exciting eleventh Starship test flight!” read a statement released on the company`s official social media channel.
Key objectives for this particular flight included a comprehensive assessment of the spacecraft`s advanced heat shield capabilities and the rigorous practice of maneuvers essential for simulating the concluding phases of a booster landing, which are critical for the system`s future reusability and return to the launch site.
