Bloomberg Report: John Ternus Tapped to Lead Apple After Tim Cook`s Tenure

According to insider Mark Gurman in a Bloomberg column, one of Apple`s current top executives is expected to succeed Tim Cook as the company`s CEO upon his eventual departure.

Gurman identifies John Ternus as the most likely candidate to become the next leader of the American tech giant. Ternus has served as Apple`s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering since 2021. Mark Gurman notes that Ternus is poised to become Apple`s new chief unless unforeseen circumstances arise.

The analyst also revealed that current Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to remain at the helm for at least another five years. This timeline would place John Ternus, born in 1975, at 55 years old upon Cook`s retirement—an “ideal age for a new CEO.”

The report suggests that more senior vice presidents under Cook are unlikely to be considered for the CEO position, as Mark Gurman indicates they would be between 65 and 70 years old by the time Cook retires. However, the Bloomberg author also points out that top executives Deirdre O`Brien and Sabih Khan could present competition to Ternus.

Tim Cook joined Apple in 1998 and took over as the company`s CEO in 2011, succeeding Apple founder Steve Jobs.

In early July, it was reported that Apple had increased its sales in China for the first time in two years. According to Counterpoint Research, the company secured a spot among the top three smartphone manufacturers in the region.
