According to Electrek, Tesla`s autonomous driving systems have become less safe over the past year. Electric vehicles from the brand are now more frequently involved in accidents.

Journalists analyzed Tesla`s annual safety report. Their findings indicate that the number of road accidents involving Tesla vehicles has increased, suggesting a decline in the safety of using the autopilot feature.
For instance, in the second quarter of 2024, Tesla vehicles drove an average of 6.88 million miles between accidents. By the second quarter of 2025, this figure dropped to 6.69 million miles, pointing to more frequent collisions.
The frequency of accidents when autopilot was not in use also increased by 33.6%. While an accident without autopilot occurred every 1.45 million miles in 2024, this figure decreased to 0.963 million miles in 2025. For comparison, the average for all vehicles in the U.S. is 0.7 million miles.
Electrek experts criticize Tesla for a lack of transparency and potential data manipulation. They point out that accidents where airbags did not deploy might not be included in the statistics. Furthermore, city driving accidents are rarely reported, as autopilot is primarily used on highways.
Separately, EVIR researchers previously stated that most Americans are either unaware of Tesla`s robotaxi service or consider it unsafe.
