Tesla is reportedly considering the creation of a smaller version of its electric pickup, the Cybertruck.
According to Business Insider, Tesla Corporation is exploring the idea of developing a compact modification of its Cybertruck electric pickup.
Journalists cited an interview with Tesla Vice President Lars Moravy, who mentioned the possibility of a more accessible Cybertruck version. Moravy stated: “We always thought about creating a smaller pickup.”
A company representative emphasized that such a pickup would be beneficial for both consumers and the manufacturer, as it would help boost electric vehicle sales. Business Insider suggests that the reduced model aims to expand Tesla`s presence outside the US, given the limited offerings in Europe and other regions. The original Cybertruck previously faced market challenges.
The publication notes that the full-size steel pickup has not received approval for sale in many countries, and the release of its compact version could rectify the situation. For instance, one of the first Cybertrucks to appear in the UK was confiscated by the police.
The publication`s experts also pointed out the high cost of the Cybertruck – the starting price was 100 thousand dollars (approximately 8 million rubles), which significantly deviates from Elon Musk`s promise in 2019 of a 40 thousand dollar price tag (about 3 million rubles).
Furthermore, it was announced in late July that Tesla`s profit in the second quarter declined to 1.172 billion dollars, which is 16.3% lower than the previous year`s figures.
