Tesla has begun offering car owners the option to reintroduce traditional turn signal stalks (levers) in their Model 3 vehicles for an additional cost. This move was initially reported by The Verge.
This paid option is currently available when ordering a Model 3 in China, priced at 2,499 Chinese Yuan (approximately 28,000 Russian Rubles). For this fee, Tesla will install the steering-column-mounted turn signal levers in the new vehicle.
Tesla had previously removed these physical stalks from the base Model 3, starting with vehicles produced for the Chinese market in 2023, and globally in 2024. Their functions were integrated into buttons on the steering wheel and duplicated on the central touchscreen display. This design change was reportedly driven by Tesla`s pursuit of extreme minimalism.
According to The Verge, many consumers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the removal of the traditional turn signal controls. While it appears Tesla has responded to customer feedback, it remains to be seen how owners will react to having to pay for a feature that was once standard.
Note: The final paragraph about the Model YL was removed as it was not relevant to the main topic of turn signal controls and appeared to be an unrelated product announcement.
