The Ministry of Internal Affairs has emphasized a critical concept for individuals who fall victim to cyber fraud: the “golden hour.” This refers to the crucial period immediately following a cyber attack during which swift actions can significantly minimize the potential damage and consequences.
Law enforcement officials advise that if you have just inadvertently disclosed personal or financial data to fraudsters, it is paramount to act without delay. This includes promptly changing all compromised passwords and access codes for your online services and banking accounts. Furthermore, you should immediately freeze your bank cards and accounts and contact your bank using the official number provided on your bank card itself.
In cases where your phone number has been stolen or compromised by fraudsters, it is essential to contact your mobile operator at once to report the incident. The Ministry of Internal Affairs also recommends re-linking all your crucial services, social media accounts, and messaging applications to a new, secure phone number that has not been compromised.
Previously, authorities had issued warnings about an unusual type of fraud. In this scam, criminals would attempt to steal personal information and hack into applications by posing as technicians offering assistance with changing intercom codes, highlighting the evolving tactics of cybercriminals.
