Two powerful M-class solar flares erupted on the Sun on Wednesday. This information comes from the latest data presented on the website of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to the provided charts, both flares slightly surpassed the energy threshold required for their classification as strong M-class events. The first significant flare was observed around 05:00 Moscow time, with the second occurring approximately at 20:00 Moscow time.
In addition to these major events, the Sun also exhibited several less intense C-class flares throughout the same day.
Consequently, Earth is currently experiencing a geomagnetic storm, a direct result of this heightened solar activity. Scientists project that this geomagnetic disturbance will likely continue at least until the beginning of next week.
