What I’m Here For Review: A Nurse’s High-Pressure Shift as a Gothic Nightmare

At the Tron, Glasgow, an intense and atmospheric play titled ‘What I’m Here For’ elevates the life-and-death choices confronting a stressed and short-staffed nurse during a weekend shift to gothic proportions. While most hospital dramas opt for a clinical white aesthetic – gleaming walls and bright, antiseptic surfaces – this production, a co-creation by Vanishing Point (Glasgow) and Teater Katapult (Aarhus, Denmark), takes a strikingly different visual approach. Designer Mai Katsume dresses nurses, doctors, and patients in black, positioning them against an ominously dark stage.
