Ben Lerner’s “Transcription” Crowned Winner of Orwell Prize for Political Fiction

American author Ben Lerner has secured the prestigious Orwell Prize for Political Fiction with his novel, “Transcription.” The book delves into the intricate relationship between technology and memory.

In the nonfiction category, the Orwell Prize was awarded to Karen Bartlett for “The Escape from Kabul.” This work highlights the plight of Afghan women lawyers who faced significant threats following the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in 2021.

The judging chair lauded Lerner’s novel as a “funny, brainy, and timely” exploration of society’s increasing reliance on technology.
