“I’ve performed on more cruises than Jane McDonald,” quips Chris Dennis, the vibrant personality behind the drag persona La Voix. With an impressive 130 cruises under his belt, Dennis’s alter ego, La Voix, has become a beloved figure, known for her powerful renditions of show tunes, witty remarks, and striking crimson hair.
Audiences may recognize La Voix from her appearances on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” her memorable dance on “Strictly Come Dancing,” and her role as a “spokesqueen” during Eurovision. Now, La Voix is set to make her musical theatre debut as Miss Hannigan in “Annie.”
La Voix is inspired by the women Chris Dennis grew up with in Stockton-on-Tees – women who possessed quick wit, warm hearts, strong voices, and an always-ready sparkly top for a night out. While drag has evolved significantly over the years, La Voix embodies a classic style of light entertainment. Dennis cites legendary comedians like Ken Dodd, Barry Humphries’ Dame Edna, and Paul O’Grady’s Lily Savage as major influences, appreciating their ability to deliver rapid-fire jokes that elicit laughter.
Her characteristic humor is reminiscent of the late Victoria Wood, as demonstrated by her playful response to a question about dancing with “Strictly” partner Aljaž Škorjanec: “To be flung around the room by a muscular Slovenian, you’re not going to say no, are you?”
