Luca Guadagnino Defends Timothée Chalamet on Opera and Ballet Remarks

Director Luca Guadagnino has come to the defense of actor Timothée Chalamet, who faced backlash for his statement that ballet and opera are art forms that “nobody cares about” anymore. Guadagnino, who directed Chalamet in the 2017 film “Call Me By Your Name,” voiced his support for the actor ahead of the premiere of Guadagnino’s own production of the opera “The Death of Klinghoffer.”

Speaking to the Italian newspaper La Stampa in Florence, Guadagnino characterized the reaction to Chalamet’s comments as excessive. He questioned how a single statement could escalate into a widespread debate.
