Acclaimed actor Michael Sheen is set to grace the West End stage once more, taking on the iconic role of Salieri in a brand-new production of Peter Shaffer’s celebrated play, ‘Amadeus’. He will share the spotlight with Callum Scott Howells, who is slated to play the enigmatic Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
This significant theatrical event, directed by Jeremy Herrin, is a co-production with the Welsh National Theatre, an initiative spearheaded by Sheen himself last year. The play is scheduled to premiere at the New Theatre Cardiff in March 2027. Following its Welsh debut, it will embark on an extensive 16-week engagement at London’s prestigious Noël Coward Theatre, commencing in April.
This revival marks a notable return for Shaffer’s masterful work to the professional stage, being its first major production in over a decade. The anticipation surrounding Sheen’s portrayal of Mozart’s envious rival is palpable, with the actor himself reportedly expressing that the role “feels very special”.
