Nanotyrannus: A Separate Species, Not a Young T. rex

A long-standing enigma in the world of paleontology may be nearing resolution. The dinosaur Nanotyrannus, which was previously thought to be merely a juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex, now appears to have been its own unique species.

Scientists examined a small throat bone from the original Nanotyrannus fossil. Their analysis revealed growth patterns indicating that the creature had already reached maturity, rather than being a young, still-growing T. rex.

This smaller predator, approximately half the size of an adult T. rex, likely coexisted with its more famous relative, introducing a new level of intricacy to prehistoric environments.
