Trump Advocates for "Super Intelligence" Over "Artificial Intelligence"
At the UN General Assembly, Donald Trump announced his intention to stop using the term "artificial intelligence," advocating for its replacement with "super intelligence" in US government documents.
Trump believes the word "artificial" implies a fake intelligence, whereas the technology is, in reality, extraordinary. He has instructed his staff to cease using the term and instead adopt "super intelligence" (SI).
Following his address, steps were taken to implement this change. An email was sent to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations Bureau requesting the replacement of all "AI" mentions with "SI." The directive specifies that "SI" will now be used in all future statements, positions, and press materials.
While many are calling for regulation of AI development, Trump opposes this, favoring continued advancement. He stated on social media that he will not "slow down the growth of something that will be bigger than the industrial revolution, or bigger than the internet itself."
US representatives have already begun using the new term during a UN Security Council meeting on AI risks. At this meeting, leaders from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Hugging Face called for greater oversight of the technology.
