Lost copy of seventh-century poem in Old English discovered at Rome library

A previously unknown version of a seventh-century poem, written in Old English and considered the earliest surviving poem in the English language, has been unearthed in Rome. The manuscript of “Caedmon’s Hymn,” composed by a Northumbrian cowherd, was discovered by researchers from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) at the National Central Library of Rome.
