Historian Disputes 'Witches' Marks' on Historic English Buildings

July 10, 2026Diego Herrera1 мин

Claims that numerous "witches' marks" or "ritual protection symbols" have been found on the walls of historic English structures, including medieval churches and homes, by organizations like English Heritage and Historic England, are being challenged. A prominent architectural historian has asserted that there is "absolutely no evidence" to support the notion that these markings are connected to witchcraft or possess any "mystical meanings." The historian suggests that these symbols, such as daisy wheels, are more plausibly the mundane working marks left by stonemasons during construction.
