International Booker Prize Awarded to Mandarin Chinese Novel for First Time

For the first time in its history, the prestigious International Booker Prize has been awarded to a novel originally written in Mandarin Chinese. The winning work, Taiwan Travelogue, penned by Yáng Shuāng-zǐ and translated into English by Lin King, has achieved a remarkable feat, being recognized for its success as both a compelling romance and an insightful postcolonial narrative.

Yáng Shuāng-zǐ and Lin King were jointly announced as recipients of the £50,000 prize, which will be divided equally between them. The announcement took place during a ceremony held at Tate Modern in London on Tuesday evening.
