Charles Spencer to Release Book Detailing Truth About His Sister, Diana

Charles Spencer is set to release a book about his late sister, Diana, in September. Titled "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister," the book will delve into the life of Diana and the week of her passing. This marks the first time Earl Spencer will openly and extensively share his personal reflections on his sister, according to publisher Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin. The UK release date is scheduled for September 22nd.

Spencer explained that the approaching 30th anniversary of Diana's death has led to a surge of interview requests, prompting him to compile his own memories and thoughts. He stated, "This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time."

His aim with the book is to present "the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective," a sentiment he echoed in his eulogy at her funeral. He intends to speak on Diana's behalf and in a distinctly positive manner.

Spencer delivered the eulogy at Westminster Abbey in September 1997, following Diana's death on August 31st. Daniel Bunyard, publishing director at Penguin Michael Joseph, anticipates that the book will contain "many revelations that will draw considerable attention" while serving as a "fitting tribute to the beloved woman who was Princess Diana."

Spencer expressed his hope that the book will resonate with those who still hold Diana's memory dear. He added, "I would be delighted if those too young to remember her in her heyday feel, after reading this, that they ‘get’ who she really was: a one-off, dynamic character, full of love, charisma and self-doubt, who gave life a hell of a go, and left the world a far better place, despite exiting the stage while still so young."
