Australia Bans Social Media for Under 16s: Platforms Circumvent Law

July 11, 2026Diego Herrera1 мин

As of December 10, 2025, Australia made history by becoming the first nation globally to ban social media access for anyone under the age of 16. This prohibition is strict: no waivers and no parental exceptions are permitted. Digital giants such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, X, and seven other major services, are now obligated to prevent Australian minors from accessing their platforms. However, the implementation of this stringent law is already facing challenges, with platforms reportedly seeking ways to circumvent these restrictions or delay their full application, raising questions about the effectiveness of this pioneering measure.
