‘Car-Bombed My House’: Podcast Tackles Illegal Bloodsports
The creators of the acclaimed podcast series "Buried" found themselves investigating a shocking incident: the discovery of approximately 20 mutilated animal carcasses, including rabbits, hares, pheasants, a fox, and a muntjac deer with its head removed, dumped outside a rural primary school in Hampshire. This disturbing event, which occurred in 2024, led investigative journalists Dan Ashby and Lucy Taylor into the clandestine realm of illegal bloodsports.
Their new 10-part podcast, "Buried: Dead Rabbit," delves into this murky underworld, exposing the connections between illegal hare coursing – a practice outlawed in the UK since 2005 where dogs are used to hunt and kill hares – and organised crime. The investigation also uncovers links to dangerous and violent individuals who are reportedly terrorising communities across the country. The podcast's deep dive into the subject has reportedly led to threats against the journalists, including an incident where their house was car-bombed.
