'Topless modelling never aligned with me': inside Everyone’s Seen My Tits, the play by a former page 3 model
As she brings her memoir to the Edinburgh festival, Keeley Hazell talks about trauma, exploitation, the hollowness of the high life – and her new career as a writer on Ted Lasso.
In the mid-2000s, it felt as though "everyone" had seen Keeley Hazell topless. Page 3 was a prominent feature of tabloid newspapers, lads' magazines were thriving, and she was one of the nation's most recognizable glamour models. However, Hazell, speaking softly, admits, "There was excitement, but also a lot of shame and embarrassment. Topless modelling never really aligned with me as a person."
Hazell, originally from Lewisham, London, departed the modelling world in her early twenties and relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting. Yet, the emotional residue from her time in the industry has persisted, partially influencing her forthcoming book, "Everyone's Seen My Tits: Stories and Reflections from an Unlikely Feminist," slated for publication in 2025. She describes the writing process as a "release," particularly as she prepares for an Edinburgh Fringe theatre and comedy show based on the book in London. "I was able to give myself a voice," she explains, for "a period where I felt voiceless."
